General questions
Where is Mona Steel located?
Mona Steel is located at 720 E Debra Ln, Anaheim, CA 92805, in north Orange County.
Is Mona Steel family owned?
Yes. Mona Steel is 100% family owned and operated, backed by more than 50 years of experience in the iron and steel industry.
Do you provide mill test reports?
Yes. Material ships with mill test reports (MTRs) and heat-number traceability.
Services
What file formats do you accept for laser cutting?
We work with DXF, DWG, STEP and IGES files, as well as dimensioned PDF drawings. For the fastest quote, send 1:1 scale DXF files in inches along with material grade, thickness, quantity and finish.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
No hard minimum. We cut prototypes and short runs as well as high-volume production. Unit pricing improves as quantity increases because setup and nesting costs are spread across more parts.
How long a part can you bend?
We can press-brake form parts up to 26 ft long in a single piece. Maximum thickness at full length depends on the material grade and bend geometry, so send us the drawing and we will confirm feasibility.
Can you bend galvanized or pre-painted material?
Yes. We form pre-galvanized and pre-coated sheet and use tooling practices that minimize coating damage at the bend.
Can you match an existing profile?
Yes. Send us a drawing, a sample or even a photo with key dimensions and we can reverse-engineer the section, then recommend improvements if there is room to save weight or cost.
Which galvanizing option should I choose for roll-formed parts?
Pre-galvanized coil (for example G90) is cost-effective for most indoor and moderate environments. For harsh or coastal exposure, hot-dip galvanizing after fabrication per ASTM A123 or zinc-magnesium coated steel may be the better choice. We will help you match the coating to the environment and design life.
What information do you need to quote tube bending?
Outside dimension, wall thickness, material grade, centerline bend radius, bend angles, straight lengths between bends and quantity. A drawing or 3D model is best.
Can you roll structural shapes into curves?
Yes. Pipe, tube, W-Beams, channels, angles and flat bar can be section-rolled into arcs, quarter and half circles and full rings for canopies, arches, roof framing and architectural details. Send the section, the radius and the arc angle or length.
What do you need to quote a rolled cylinder or cone?
Inside or outside diameter (and which one is critical), plate thickness and grade, shell height or width, and quantity. For cones, include both diameters and the height or slant length.
Do you weld the seams?
We can deliver shells rolled and tacked, or coordinate seam welding and fit-up as part of a fabricated package. Tell us what your shop prefers.
How thick can you cut?
Oxy-fuel cutting handles very thick carbon steel plate, well beyond the range of laser and plasma. Send your drawing with thickness and grade and we will confirm the best process.
Can you cut weld bevels?
Yes. Bevel edges for weld preparation can be specified on your drawing.
Is there a charge for project consulting?
Early-stage consulting tied to a steel supply or fabrication package is typically part of working with us. For stand-alone studies, we will scope the work and quote it upfront.
Do you provide stamped structural engineering?
No. We provide fabrication and material expertise and coordinate with your licensed engineer of record, who retains responsibility for structural design and stamped drawings.
What do you need to start a detailing job?
The structural and architectural drawings, the project specifications and any connection design or delegated-design calculations. Your submittal schedule helps us plan the work.
Do you provide engineered connection design?
No. We detail the connections shown or specified by the engineer of record, or those designed by your project’s connection engineer. Engineering and approvals stay with them.
Do you deliver to job sites?
Yes. We coordinate delivery to job sites and shops throughout Southern California and across the state, and ship to projects nationwide. Phased deliveries can be scheduled to match your crews and laydown space.
Products
What grade are your W-Beams?
W-Beams (wide flange beams) are typically supplied to ASTM A992, the standard specification for structural W-Beams in U.S. building construction. A572 Grade 50 is also available.
Do you cut sheet and plate to size?
Yes. We shear, laser cut and plasma cut sheet and plate to your blanks, from simple rectangles to complex nested parts.
What is the difference between tube and pipe?
Tube is specified by outside dimension and wall thickness and is used for structural and mechanical purposes. Pipe is specified by nominal pipe size and schedule and was originally designed to carry fluids, though it is widely used structurally as well.
Can you produce custom C and Z profiles?
Yes. We design tooling and roll-form custom profiles for OEMs, racking and solar companies, and metal building suppliers.
