Every steel package starts on paper. Mona Steel prepares the shop and erection drawings your fabricator and erector need, working from the structural and architectural drawings in your bid or construction set.

Because we also cut, form and supply steel, our drawings are made with the shop in mind: clear piece marks, practical connections and bills of material you can order from. Use our detailing on its own, or together with our fabrication and supply.

What we detail

Typical detailing work includes:

  • Structural steel framing for commercial and industrial buildings
  • Miscellaneous metals: stairs, ladders, handrails, platforms and canopies
  • Solar racking steel, piles and carport structures
  • Equipment supports, pipe racks and mezzanines
  • Cold-formed framing, purlins and girts

How a detailing job runs

A clear process keeps your submittal on schedule:

  1. Step 01

    Send the drawings

Structural and architectural drawings, specifications and any connection design for the project.

  2. Step 02

    Model & RFIs

We model the job and send RFIs for anything missing or in conflict.

  3. Step 03

    Approval drawings

You and the engineer of record review and mark up the submittal.

  4. Step 04

    Release for fabrication

Final shop drawings, bills of material and CNC files go to the shop.

Working with your engineer of record

Detailing turns the design into fabrication drawings; it is not structural design. Member sizes, connection design and approvals stay with your engineer of record, and every submittal goes to them for review.

Typical projects

  • Commercial & industrial buildings
  • Warehouses & distribution centers
  • Utility-scale & C&I solar
  • Stairs, rails & platforms
  • Equipment supports & mezzanines
  • Tenant improvements

Steel Detailing FAQ

What do you need to start a detailing job?

The structural and architectural drawings, the project specifications and any connection design or delegated-design calculations. Your submittal schedule helps us plan the work.

Do you provide engineered connection design?

No. We detail the connections shown or specified by the engineer of record, or those designed by your project’s connection engineer. Engineering and approvals stay with them.

Can you detail steel you are not fabricating?

Yes. Detailing is available on its own, for your shop or another fabricator, or together with our cutting, forming and steel supply.

What do you deliver?

PDF shop and erection drawings, bills of material in Excel, and DXF and NC1 files for CNC equipment. Ask us about any other format your shop runs on.

Where we deliver

We work with contractors, EPCs and owners across Orange County, Los Angeles County, the Inland Empire, San Diego County and the Central Valley, and on projects nationwide, including Texas, Arizona and Nevada.
